Favorite Dive Destination - Round 5: Caribbean

From Nicholas McLaren, About.com GuideMay 8, 2008

Follow me on:

A region of the world that needs no introduction when it comes to diving is the Caribbean. The Caribbean Sea is home 29% of the world's coral reefs and over 7000 islands. This makes it particularly hard to choose a favorite, but this is just what I'm asking you to do.

Will it be the Cayman Islands that features the amazing Sting Ray City dive site or perhaps the Virgin Islands or Netherlands Antilles which both have a rich assortment of reefs and wrecks. Of course, one of the most famous destination in the Caribbean is Bonaire, but maybe you prefer one of the lesser known destinations such as Cuba or Jamaica. Let us know your favorite by voting on the poll and stop by the forum to tell everyone what makes it the best.

Remember, voting is still open for rounds 1 to 4 so you can still choose your favorite destination in South-East Asia, Central America & Mexico, North America, and Oceania.

why is there no option for other or for the Lesser Antilles?
This poll does not represent the Caribbean as a whole.

The diving in the Bahamas was good but the hassles and rude customs people at the airport pretty much spoiled the trip for me. Customs agents were rude and unprofessional as well has having to lug your baggage over a half mile through three screening areas. I wrote a complaint about the rude agents and got a quick reply that the complaint would be forwarded to the proper people but I never heard back from anyone. I guess they just don’t give a damn. Wasn’t worth the trouble and I won’t be going back.

Hi Aquanauts Granada, You make a good point. I couldn’t cover everywhere and have probably inadvertently left out some places. After the last preliminary round I’ll have a wild card round and include all those places that readers have pointed out were missing. – Nicholas

Hi Joe

I am sorry about your experience with rude custom officer. This does not reflect the majority of the Bahamian people.

Hello Sue. My e mail address is lvjoe700@aol.com I was in Nassau. Did the shark dive with Stewart’s Cove and a couple more dives near the light house but I don’t remember the dive group.
