The City of Grand Rapids caught fire in the harbor of Tobermory in 1907. To save the dock and neighboring ships, the City of Grand Rapids was cut loose from the dock and pulled into a nearby bay where she could burn without endangering other ships. The remains of City of Grand Rapids are still well-preserved over 100 years later. Even novice divers can visit this wreck because it sits in only 15 feet of water. The City of Grand Rapids rests near the wreck of the Sweepstakes, and both wrecks can be visited on the same dive.
