Driving Underwater - James Bond Style!
Have you ever wanted to be able to combine your love of driving with your love of scuba diving? Well guess what… now you can do both at the same time. Thanks to Swiss company Rinspeed it's now possible to live out your James Bond fantasies of driving underwater.
Making its debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show the sQuba can drive or “fly” underwater to depths of 35 feet (10 meters). The sQuba's three electric motors (one for land driving, and two for underwater) are powered by rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries and are completely emission free. The sQuba is only available with an open top. Rinspeed CEO Frank Rinderknecht explains: "For safety reasons we have built the vehicle as an open car so that the occupants can get out quickly in an emergency. With an enclosed cabin opening the door might be impossible." So, you'll need to have your scuba gear on when you go for a drive or at least suit up before entering the water but I don't see this as much of a problem in a warm water environment.
There seem to be a lot of new scuba gadgets coming out lately and the sQuba is in my mind the biggest and the best. I'd love to go for a drive around my favorite dive site but can't quite imagine what it would be like to have deal with traffic and bad drivers underwater as well.
Check out a video of the sQuba here and of course you'll have to learn to dive if you want to take one for a spin.

This is pretty cool. It actually reminded me of a time one of my buddies went off-roading and when he tried to cross a pond, he fell through the ice.
This looks a little bit safer, and a little bit more fun. Tropical waters would definitely be the ones to drive in.
