Nicholas' Scuba Diving BlogScuba in the MoviesI happened to watch Into the Blue again recently - despite its far fetched story and lack of reality in diving scenes I don't think anyone could deny that Into the Blue is a fantastic advertisement for diving - Jessica Alba and Paul Walker are the perfect ambassadors for the sport. Watching that movie got me thinking about Scuba in the movies and all of the different ways diving has been depicted by Hollywood. Scuba movies have ranged from the classic documentaries of Jacques Cousteau (with The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau the most famous) to scuba horror such as The Cave, romantic comedies like Fool's Gold (it might be a stretch to fit Along Came Polly into this category - "Are you for scuba?"), the infamous Open Water, the surreal The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and even the inspiring biopic Men of Honor. Of course, one of my favorite scuba movies is the smash-hit Finding Nemo. Despite the fact that I've seen it countless times while working in various dive shops I still love the animation and think it's a brilliant movie for creating a love for the ocean in children. While not quite a movie, the BBC documentary series Blue Planet is a truly stunning look at everything we still have to see in the ocean and it never fails to inspire me to want to explore new corners of the ocean. With so many different types of scuba movies out there it's hard to decide which is my favorite - they're all good in different ways. Which is your favorite scuba movie? Let us know by voting in the poll and tell us why by posting in the forum. Monday March 17, 2008 | comments (4) Display Latest Headlines | powered by WordPress |
