Underwater Text Messaging Has Arrived
Tuesday January 15, 2008
Good news for all those divers that like gadgets, you can now send text messages while diving. Developed by UTC (Underwater Technology Center), the Underwater Digital Device (or UDI) is the latest in diving gadgetry.
In addition to logging dives, the wrist-mounted UDI allows up to 54 divers to communicate electronically underwater and with their boat, Featuring 14 preset messages, but unfortunately no keyboard, the UDI can work from as far as 1500 feet away and can also be used as a homing beacon, helping lost divers find their way back to the boat – something I’m sure most divers have wished they had at least once.
Hopefully I’ll test the UDI out soon and write a full review, but for now, it sounds like a pretty cool gadget. Check out more information about the UDI here.
