Proposed Scuba Diving Ban in South Africa
Sunday December 16, 2007
The South African government has recently announced a plan to ban scuba diving along much of the Cape Coast of South Africa. In an attempt to eradicate poaching of perlemoen (abalone) the Environmental Affairs Minister has proposed a ban on diving equipment such as underwater breathing gear, masks, fins, and snorkels. The proposed ban makes no sense and is yet another example of legislators targeting the wrong group when trying to prevent illegal fishing and poaching. Recreational divers are extremely unlikely to be involved in illegal poaching and this blanket ban is punishing divers who only want to enjoy the amazing marine life in the area. The government should instead make a greater effort to police commercial fishing and diving operations in the area.
The Cape Coast of South Africa is renowned for its abundant shark diving opportunities and is considered one of the best places in the world for Great White Shark encounters. If the ban is implemented it will kill recreational diving and dive tourism in South Africa. Read more about the proposed ban and what the public can do to prevent it.

No no, they are not targeting the wrong group of people!! I mean don’t you have to be a criminal to have the law on your side?? Pathetic!!
Typical of the South African government, obviously they have nothing better to do with their time nor nothing better to do with the minimal brain cells they do possess. Sad actually, it would seem that some members of the human race never evolved.
